FAQ

  • You should expect to spend some time discussing your story, symptoms, medical history, and goals. You will receive a comprehensive orthopedic examination regardless if you’re scheduled for a Pilates-based PT examination or a pelvic floor PT examination. If you’re scheduled for a pelvic floor PT examination, you may be recommended for an internal examination (vaginal or rectal). You always have the right to decline an internal examination. While some aspects of pelvic floor musculature can only be assessed internally, there are external techniques that can be utilized as an alternative. After your exam we will discuss your diagnosis, treatment plan, and next steps.

  • Mend Studio is an out of network provider, meaning we don’t partner with insurance companies, and therefore are not restricted by insurance limitations. With this flexibility we can provide one on one, 50 minute sessions with treatment tailored to your specific needs. Upon request, we can provide you with a claim form and an itemized bill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • In the state of North Carolina you do not need a physician referral to see a physical therapist. However, if you plan to file for reimbursement please check with your insurance company to see if you need a referral to see a physical therapist.

  • Unfortunately Mend Studio is unable to see Medicare patients for physical therapy. Because we don’t partner with Medicare, law prevents us from providing Medicare patients with “normally covered services.”

  • Pilates-based physical therapy combines traditional physical therapy methods with classical Pilates exercises on Pilates equipment. It emphasizes whole body interconnectedness rather than solely treating a localized injury. It prioritizes alignment, balancing stability and mobility throughout the body and therefore preventing injury down the road. It improves body awareness, ensuring that specific muscle groups are being used correctly and in the right sequence.

  • We recommend waiting until you are 6 weeks postpartum or until you have clearance from your physician to come in for pelvic floor physical therapy.

  • Absolutely! We provide labor and delivery preparation where we teach you how to relax your pelvic floor muscles, educate you on perineal massage, review labor and birth positioning, teach pushing techniques, and prepare you for early postpartum recovery.

  • Definitely! We treat the pelvic floor in the context of the whole body. Pelvic floor rehabilitation will culminate in full-body Pilates exercises so that we can ensure you can handle the demands of functional activity and exercise without recurrence of symptoms.

  • Most patients are comfortable in standard workout gear. Your clothing should be breathable and allow you to work within a full range of motion. Plan to go barefoot or wear grip socks on the Pilates equipment.
